What are the symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
They are many and varied, and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can ofter be
mistaken for something else.
However, if you have some or all of these you most likely have carpal
tunnel syndrome.
The first and main symptom of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome are usually.
Pain
in the wrist and hand.
Or
Numbness and tingling in the
fingers. (EXCEPT little finger).
The reason the little finger is not effected - The median nerve is the
nerve that is irritated and the median nerve does not go to the little
finger.
So if you have tingling in the little finger as well, you DO NOT HAVE CARPAL
TUNNEL SYNDROME.
If you have the symptoms above and it is indeed Carpal Tunnel Syndrome,
the symptoms could progress to...
Weakness in the hand, unable to grasp
things and have a tendency to drop things.
You may also loose the sense of heat and cold, and feel like
your hands are swollen even though there is no swelling.
Also you could expect that the symptoms will continue even when the
hand is at rest and not being used.
Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can extend to
The feelings of tingling happening even when in bed, or waking up with
the same pain in the hands.
Things to watch out for.
If you feel the symptoms of tingling and pain occurring at night, then
it is most likely Carpal Tunnel.
You may notice the pain and tingling outside of work hours. It is often
the case that the symptoms occur outside work hours and people fail to
associate the problem with work. However most often it is work that
causes Carpal Tunnel problems in the first place.
SUMMING UP LOOK OUT FOR -
- recurrent pain
in the fingers, and hand (but not pinkie).
- pain that can
even extend up from the hand up the arm.
- pain can even
extend to the neck.
- pain and
tingling that occurs at night or when hand is at rest.
- pain and
tingling outside work hours, this is usually when you will first notice
it.
- weakness
in the hand, unable to grasp objects.
Below is an image for you, the area shaded in light is the
area that is affected by Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. The light area is the
area the Median Nerve services. This is the area that you will feel
symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
Do all these symptoms and the adre affected sound like you???
If it does then you may have CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME.
If you wish to be 100% sure then see a doctor.
If you intestested in further tests, we do have some self diagnosis tests
on this site. Just click on the Self Diagnosis Test link on the left
and test them out.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is an unusual thing. And can cause some serious
problems in your life.
I first noticed my symptoms after a long day on the computer. You see I
do a lot of typing in my job. While the medical profession sometimes
say that the repetitive actions have no bearing on Carpal Tunnel, if
you have it and have a job with repetitive actions you will know better.
A short story
for you.
Does this sound familiar to you????
About three months (at the time of writing this). Things were
not going so well, I had a lot on my plate, heaps to do, work was full
on and I was behind. (Hope this is not yourself). Putting in some
serious hours seemed the only option.
After
about a week, it happened.....
Nothing to serious at first, just a slight tingling in my fingers.
Mainly pointer and big finger.
Also a little pain in the wrist, actually just at the top of the wrist,
nothing serious, and only in my right hand.
Good old me,
not wanting to admit defeat put it down to just to much work, so I did
the manly thing I just ignored it and had an aspin.
But
things did not clear up.
They stayed there, reasonably constantly, and especially
after a big day at the computer.
Eventually, I knew, you know how it is, no one tells you but in your
gut you just know.
That's how I was, just knew. (I have no problems
now. My Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is GONE.)
But for a while I was very worried, how could I survive if this got
worse, I have to type for a living, I'd have to stop work.
I
MIGHT HAVE TO GIVE UP GOLF!!!!!!
(I'm a terrible golfer,
but for some strange reason I really enjoy a game)
Now I must say right now that my symptoms never got debilitating.
Never once was I in agony like some people that I have heard about,
where things were just unbearable.
Knowing enough about Carpal Tunnel Syndrome led me to get right onto a
solution immediately.
Not one for drugs, or surgery (I'm a bit of a scardy cat
about surgery pain), I wanted options that worked,
options that I could avoid doctors with, and options that
wouldn't cost me the earth.
If you think you might have carpal tunnel syndrome, then check out the
self diagnosis pages and do a quick self test.
Did you know that surgery will
not guarentee that you will not get carpal tunnel syndrome again??
Ask your doctor if you do not beleive me.
The best methods are
the natural ones, the ones that do not involve invasive
surgery or drugs. Sure they may take a while longer to work.
But they also last a lot longer, knowing how and why helps
with the long term understanding of how to stop Carpal Tunnel in it's
tracks and never have it return.
